Chiari Walk Planned In Kansas

Sharon Coldiron has organized a Chiari Walk in Wichita, Kansas for March 22nd, 2008.  All the proceeds for the event will go towards Chiari research.  If you live in the area, it's a great way to help raise awareness and money to help Conquer Chiari.

Let's all wish Sharon well, and say congratulations on standing up and fighting back!

New Fundraiser Proposal Form

In order to prevent fraud and abuse, there are extensive regulations, both at the State and Federal levels, governing fundraising for charities.  For example, most states require a volunteer to get express permission from the charity before soliciting funds in any manner.  Also, some venues require an insurance certificate before an event can be held there, which requires Conquer Chiari to add the event to its insurance policy.  In order to comply with such regulations, Conquer Chiari has implemented a simple form for people who would like to organize a fundraiser.

Conquer Chiari Fundraiser Proposal Form

If you're interested in organizing a fundraiser, the form can be filled out using Adobe Acrobat Reader.  Just fill in as much as you know about the event, print it out and sign it.  Then you can return it by

Fax:  724-940-0172
Email: director@conquerchiari.org
Regular Mail:  320 Osprey Court
                      Wexford, PA 15090

If the event is approved, you will receive an official notice via email. Otherwise you may be contacted for more information before approval is given.

By using the form, it makes clear that you are acting as an unpaid volunteer, as opposed to a professional fundraiser.  It also makes clear that you have Conquer Chiari's permission to hold the fundraiser and solicit donations on our behalf.

You may notice that the bottom of the form states that for certain fundraisers, Conquer Chiari will request a background check of the volunteer(s) organizing the event.  This may be a concern for some people, but keep in mind that most events will NOT require such a check. However, for events that may raise a large amount of money, or will involve a lot of cash, it is our obligation to protect the organization from abuse.  The easiest way to do that is with a simple background check.  Note that permission (from the volunteer) is required for such a check and Conquer Chiari will never perform one without signed permission.
